Michael Emery
Derek, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants with over 40 years’ experience in senior positions across global energy markets. At Yorkshire Electricity, he created the Treasury function from scratch prior to privatisation in 1990 including establishing banking relationships and negotiating and placing up to £1 billion in financing facilities. In 1998, Derek joined Ernst & Young (EY) as a Director in Business Risk Consulting where he was subsequently fast tracked through partnership and became the Head of UK Utilities establishing the Firm’s first Energy Trading practice. In 2002, he founded the Energy Services Partnership (ESP) which became one of the UK’s leading energy risk management consultancies winning multiple national awards including the UK’s most innovative consultancy in 2013. Following the acquisition of ESP by Ameresco Inc in 2013, as UK CEO, Derek expanded its core services by acquiring and building out a number of renewable energy assets and further enhancing its global risk management capability by developing leading edge net zero strategies and supporting carbon reporting services.
